I was in the contest...here's the story.

DEVO was doing an in-store at Tower Records in Westwood for TOTAL DEVO. As I stood in line they announced that they were having a karaoke contest where you had to sing "Don't Be Cruel".

Me not being a singer by any means, I was talked into entering for kicks. So as we waited in line, each contestant did there version of the Elvis classic. Over and over and over again hearing really bad versions of "Don't Be Cruel".

As I was one of the last ones to get the microphone and while I was waiting I decided to screw the whole thing up, instead of singing "Don't Be Cruel" I sang "Mongoloid" to the karaoke muzak. The crowd went crazy and I won. The fans at Tower were the real deal and got my devolved sense of humor.

Now for the big night at Llasaland, I had found this really strange shirt that had a Booji Boy looking character on it, wore my cowboy boots and waited for my big moment. I again sang "Mongoloid" to the muzak of "Don't Be Cruel" but the spuds in the room were all the celebrity types and didn't get it.

But after the contest, DEVO shot the video for "Disco Dancer" in which I was a part of the audience. It was a fantastic experience, especially when Mark paraded around the room with the huge disco ball.

This is great! Thanks for posting. First time I've ever seen one of these.
