While blundering through a record shop today , I ran across a DEVO related item , I've never seen before! I've never seen anyone even admit having it! ( Maybe owing to the embarassment  factor...but then a lotta DEVO-tees bought "Weird Al" so... )

"Chipmunk Rock" , yeah , Alvin,Simon,Theodore , released in 1982 by RCA. I found this item on vinyl - so I've no clue if it got upgraded to C.D. status. It does indeed feature them covering...you guessed it... "Whip It!". Complete with a one word lyric change! ( "Break" becomes "Scratch Your Mama's Back"... which frankly sounds a bit...uh... kinky.). But even better still...it has a gatefold sleeve with images representing all the songs...The Chimpmunks in Red Domes , spraying whip cream on their dessert , while apparently dining in a space station!

Yes! Apparently the DEVO vinyl on Amazon is a NEW (July) 2012 Re-Issue with Bonus Tracks!

( For the most part it's the cassette & 12" material. )

( And Mercifully only ONE re-mix of "Baby Doll"! )

Okay , not to be a complainy Spud , but methinks the new release is slightly hinky!

Don't get me wrong - love it - but I believe at least one song is missing!

Where is: "Working In A Coal Mine" ? They promoted the hell out of that song in 1981!

( Bonus vinyl single with the album , appearing on the "Heavy Metal" Soundtrack album , released as a "tie-in" single for the film , performed on "Fridays". )

So...did they not play it in Seattle ? Was the recordist flipping the cassette over during that song? Copyright problems?

I'd love to say my brain was pin-point accurate , and I remembered the complete set , as it was performed in Santa Rosa , California  , in December of 1981 , but I do remember them playing , "Working In A Coalmine" ! ( And now I'm beginning to wonder if I'm forgetting any other songs , from that tour. ) Anybody else recall it better?

And...my copy of the album(s) , didn't have the "official" Record Store Day sticker on it - does that make it a collectors item? ( Haw Haw Haw Haw! )

Okay...no posts on it so far...but tickets are "On Sale" ( as the kids say ) , for a DEVO / BLONDIE show on September 11, 2012 at The Saratoga Winery in Calistoga , California!

Show is at 7.30 - so I'm guessing 60 minutes each , with a 30 minute set-up break.
( "Blondie" is top billed , so perhaps DEVO is doing a stripped down show. )
